Dr. Anamika wins the Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry

The first female poet to be awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry 2020
Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, is the central institution for literary dialogue, publication and promotion in the country and the only institution that undertakes literary activities in 24 Indian languages, including English. Over the 64 years of its dynamic existence, it has ceaselessly endeavoured to promote good taste and healthy reading habits, to keep alive the intimate dialogue among the various linguistic and literary zones and groups. 

Sahitya Akademi gives 24 awards annually to literary works in the languages it has recognized and an equal number of awards to literary translations from and into the languages of India, both after a year long process of scrutiny, discussion and selection.

We are so thrilled to share that Dr. Anamika is the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry (Hindi). She has received this award for 'Tokri Mein Digant’. She is the first woman to receive this award. 

Dr. Anamika is a prominent contemporary Indian poet, social worker and novelist writing in Hindi, and a critic writing in English. She has eight collections of poetry, five novels and four works of criticism in her credit. 

Prize for GenZ Poets

Dr. Anamika has always been passionate about encouraging young writers and democratizing poetry among students. In her honour, Utkarsh and Unnayan (her sons) are announcing a prize of INR 500,000 for GenZ poets (one lakh per year for five years). 

If you are a young poet under 25, apply for the Anamika Prize. Send us your work and we will ask her to pick the top 3. This award will always be there to encourage you. Write in any language but write.  Join us in celebrating poetry and congratulating Dr. Anamika for this distinguished achievement.
Next steps - 
1. Write your collection of poems in any language. Minimum 10 required.
2. Submit your collection.
3. The deadline is December 31, 2021. 

The top three poets will get a cash prize of INR 50,000, INR 30,000 & INR 20,000. A new cohort of applicants will be invited every year (This program will run for five years). The top ten poets will receive one-on-one mentoring from Dr. Anamika for their work. Their poetry collection will also be published on Network Capital.
